Learn About Dr Schwan & Chester County Dental Sleep Medicine
Dr. Robert Schwan D.M.D
Dr. Schwan works closely with Physicians and Sleep Specialists who will diagnose what type of sleep disorder you may have. The most common of these is Snoring and Sleep Apnea. With the diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sleep Physicians will usually recommend a CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device as the most effective treatment. The compliance of using the CPAP is very low because it is difficult to use. So for those who cannot tolerate using a CPAP, a properly designed and fitted oral appliance can provide very effective care by itself or in combination with a CPAP device.
Over 35 Years of Experience Treating Sleep Issues
As a knowledgeable and experienced clinician, Dr. Schwan has been helping patients with Snoring, Sleep Apnea and CPAP intolerance for over 35 years. Dr. Schwan graduated with honors in Biology at Lafayette College and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine first in his class for all clinical courses at the University of PA School of Dental Medicine. Along with providing family dental care, and complicated reconstruction of the dentition including the utilization of implants, he is a well trained expert in the latest digital diagnostic and treatment with computer centered technology.
Dr. Schwan and his staff have taken advanced training in Sleep Medicine and Sleep Dentistry. This enables them to provide the most up to date diagnostic Cone Beam Radiographic Exam and Computerized Analysis of the existing abnormalities in a patient’s airway. The Eccovision Computer uses sonar to outline the anatomy of the nasal and pharyngeal airway, isolate where any obstructions are and guide the design and customization of an oral appliance that will correct the problem.
