The Dental Appliance Therapy Solution
Traditionally sleep apnea is treated with CPAP machines which are highly effective in the sleep lab, but have issues with home use. Dental device therapy is considered a viable treatment alternative for people with mild to moderate sleep apnea syndrome.
What Is CPAP?
CPAP is what is used traditionally for the management and treatment of sleep apnea. CPAP stands for continuous positive air pressure and works by pumping ambient air into an mask worn on the face.
While very effective, CPAP machines are large and cumbersome and they have proven to be difficult to tolerate for many patients. Not to mention the fact that over time up to half of all patients become non-compliant with CPAP treatment leading to untreated sleep apnea.
The Oral Appliance Therapy Alternative
Chester County Dental Sleep Medicine uses dental device therapy to help treat apnea and restore healthy sleep without the use of a CPAP machine. Our labs will fabricate a custom device for you that holds your jaw in place while keeping the airway open and un-obstructed while you sleep.

Dental Sleep Apnea Therapy Devices
Not all Dental Sleep Apnea appliances work the same or are the same quality. At Chester County Dental Sleep Apnea we work with the Glidewell line of high-quality oral appliances that are state-of-the-art and manufactured to the highest standards.
When working with you we will design a custom fitted appliance, making sure your jaw is held in the correct position in order to ensure treatment success. Most importantly by using a take home sleep study device, we can confirm and insure the success of treatment using the appliance which can be adjusted as needed.
Sure, you can buy “At Home Boil & Bite Kits” at the store and yes, they claim to help snoring. There is a very real danger of stopping the snoring but not in fact stopping the sleep apnea pattern of not breathing. Eric Severad died in his sleep while using a boil and bite appliance with a chin strap that did nothing to correct his sleep apnea.
But we assure you they are not as comfortable nor do they have the same success rate as the custom devices we fit our patients with.
